About BMI360

BMI360 does one job: it turns height, weight and waist measurements into the numbers doctors, pediatricians and the U.S. Army use, and shows exactly how each number is produced.

Every calculator names the formula, the category limits and the organisation that publishes them. Children's results use the CDC growth chart data file itself, not a simplified table. The Army calculator follows the directive that is in force and says when it was last checked.

The results are screening figures. BMI and waist measurements cannot tell muscle from fat and say nothing about fitness, diet or family history, so no page here gives a diagnosis or tells you what you should weigh.

Who it is for

  • Adults who want to know their BMI and the healthy weight range for their height.
  • Parents who were given a percentile at a check-up and want to understand it.
  • Soldiers and Army applicants who want to know where they stand before an official measurement.

What you will find here

  • Body mass index — BMI for adults, BMI-for-age percentiles for children and teens, and the weight that matches a BMI.
  • Body composition — Waist-to-height ratio, the Army standard, body fat estimates, healthy weight ranges and resting energy.

How the tools work

Every tool runs in your browser. What you type stays on your device; see how we calculate for the formulas and data behind the results and the editorial policy for how pages are written and updated.
